A new way to experience Pottermore

We are excited to announce a whole new way to experience Pottermore, with Pottermore at PlayStation Home.

We’ve been working side by side with Sony to take a selection of beautifully illustrated Moments from Pottermore.com and translate them onto Playstation® 3’s free virtual 3D gaming platform, to bring you a brand new experience: Pottermore at Playstation Home.

For our readers who are not familiar with it, PlayStation Home is a free 3D gaming community for Sony’s PlayStation 3, where gamers play and socialise with their friends around the world.

Our latest development from Pottermore enables you, as a PlayStation 3 user, to actually step inside Diagon Alley™ and board the Hogwarts™ Express as your own customisable avatar. Once inside these 3D environments, you can also enjoy four new mini-games: experience the mayhem of Book Herding, test your knowledge with a Pottermore quiz, share and collect Pottermore Trading Cards, and take part in an illicit Wizard’s Duel.

If you have a Playstation Home account you’ll be able to actually step inside Diagon Alley™ and board the Hogwarts™ Express as an Avatar, and once inside these 3D environments, experience the mayhem of book herding, test your knowledge with a Pottermore quiz, share and collect Trading Cards, and take part in an illicit Wizard’s Duel.

There’s the choice to customise your avatar with a selection of outfits ranging from uniforms to house robes or more causal wizard attire. And there’s a selection of 14 owls, cats or toads from which to purchase a companion.

If you have progressed past Chapter Seven of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on Pottermore.com, and have been sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses, you’ll be able to link up your Pottermore.com account to your PlayStation Network ID and gain access to additional content and spaces.

Pottermore at PlayStation Home arrives in April, and if you’re curious to see what this new 3D experience of Pottermore will be like, take a look at this short trailer.

Charlie Redmayne, CEO of Pottermore, comments: “Pottermore reaches across multiple digital platforms, and our ongoing partnership with Sony has allowed us to forge this exciting connection with Playstation Home, creating the most immersive experience possible within that space and giving users wonderful new ways to explore locations from the Harry Potter stories. Following the successful launch of Wonderbook: Book of Spells, this is another example of the creative collaborations Pottermore is developing to bring the world of Harry Potter even more ingeniously to life”.

We have a separate team working on these new Pottermore innovations so, for those who don’t have a PlayStation account, there is no need to worry as we still have a dedicated team hard at work to bring you the third and final instalment of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Pottermore.com in the coming weeks.

“I believe your friends Misters Fred and George Weasley were responsible for trying to send you a lavatory seat. No doubt they thought it would amuse you. Madam Pomfrey, however, felt it might not be very hygienic, and confiscated it.”

- Chapter Seventeen, The Man with Two Faces, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Today we are celebrating Fred and George Weasley's birthday and sharing with you a selection of wonderful pieces of fan art from our Pottermore Galleries.

Share your favourite Fred and George moments or memorable quotes from the Weasley twins on our Facebook page if you have an account, on Twitter using the hashtag #pottermore, or on Pottermore.com.

As we previously announced on the Insider, we’ve been working with Sony to translate a selection of beautifully illustrated Moments from Pottermore.com into PlayStation Home, PlayStation® 3’s free virtual 3D gaming platform.

We’re very excited to announce that Pottermore at PlayStation Home is now available, so you can step inside Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express as your own customisable avatar.

You will also be able to enjoy four exclusive mini-games. Aboard the Hogwarts Express, approach the shady looking character at the end of the train carriage to take part in an illicit Wizard's Duel.

Enter into one of the compartments and challenge your friends to a Pottermore quiz to test your knowledge.

As well as this, you can collect and share Pottermore Trading Cards throughout Pottermore at PlayStation Home, and round up enchanted books in the Book Herding mini-game.

This experience will evolve over time to include more locations, new purchasable items and additional mini-games. As usual, you’ll be the first to know about any updates here on the Insider. We have a separate team working on these new Pottermore innovations so, for those who don’t have a PlayStation account, there is no need to worry as we still have a dedicated team hard at work on new Moments and instalments for Pottermore.com

We hope that you enjoy the Pottermore at PlayStation Home experience. Don’t forget to share your impressions with us on Facebook or Twitter, and in your Common Room and the Great Hall on Pottermore.com.

We are excited to announce that the next instalment of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is now ready to explore. In this instalment you will witness a re-enactment of the beheading of Nearly Headless Nick, learn about the ancient wizarding game of Gobstones, pick up sweets in Honeydukes and see the ‘most haunted dwelling in Britain’ – the Shrieking Shack.

For the first time, some of the new Moments have been released with accompanying audio book snippets for our UK, US and German users. We have also introduced a new spoiler alert feature on selected exclusive entries from J.K. Rowling. If you are about to read anything that may give away storylines or information from beyond that particular Moment on Pottermore.com, an alert will appear. You then have the choice to continue reading or to navigate away and come back at a later time so as not to spoil your own journey through the stories. You can disable the spoiler warning any time it appears and manage your spoiler settings in Account Settings.

For those of you who took part in our Teaser Questions, we are keeping the answers a secret for a few more days. We wanted to give you time to explore the new Moments and look or listen out for the answers yourselves. Share your discoveries on our Facebook page if you have an account; or on Twitter using the hashtag #pmteasers.

We hope that you enjoy the new chapters.

Announcing house pride week and the third House Cup

$

As we recently announced on Pottermore.com, the winner of the next Pottermore House Cup will soon be announced. In the run up to this, we will dedicate one day to each of the four houses in our house pride week.

What is house pride week?

House pride week is the week to express the pride of belonging to your house and celebrate each house’s history, ghost and professors, as well as enjoy some of the great house-themed artwork submitted by the Pottermore community.

We will be celebrating each of the houses for a day here on the Pottermore Insider, on our Facebook page and on our Twitter account, so make sure you don’t miss your house’s day:

Tuesday April 16 - Gryffindor
Wednesday April 17 - Slytherin
Thursday April 18 - Hufflepuff
Friday April 19 - Ravenclaw

What is the Pottermore House Cup?

This is the third Pottermore House Cup – a friendly contest between the four houses who compete to earn the most house points and win the Pottermore House Cup. Points can be earned by successfully brewing a potion or winning a duel and the house  with the most points is named the winner.

This contest’s winner will be revealed on Thursday April 25 (and the hour-glasses will be concealed from Tuesday April 23 until the winner is announced).

Slytherin’s ambition helped them to secure victory in the first Pottermore House Cup, and Gryffindor boldly battled their way to winning the second (which is why the Gryffindor crest is currently accompanied by the Pottermore House Cup Badge in the Great Hall).

The winners of the third Pottermore House Cup will not only go down in Pottermore history, but will be rewarded with a Pottermore Badge that will later be collectible on Pottermore.com. Details of this Badge will be revealed upon the announcement of the third Pottermore House Cup winner.
