Alongside the release of the concluding chapters of
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we have also introduced some new features designed to help you intuitively navigate your way around
Pottermore.com, and effortlessly discover and re-visit everything that the entirely free interactive website from J.K. Rowling has to offer.
We’ve summarised here the main new features, and the difference they will make to your journey through
Pottermore.com and your interaction with the rest of the Pottermore community.
A new Signed-in HomepageThere is a brand new Homepage for you to discover on Pottermore.com. The Homepage now includes a new way to follow the Moments of Harry’s story (the Story Navigator) and a new Map featuring areas where you can find and access all of the activities you regularly like to take part in, such as brewing potions, challenging students to duels or shopping in Diagon Alley.
The Story Navigator – Harry’s story
On Pottermore.com, Harry Potter’s story is depicted through a series of interactive illustrated Moments. With the continued addition of more Moments we wanted to create an easier way for you to browse through them all, and to find and re-visit your favourites. The new Story Navigator enables you to browse easily through thumbnails of all the available Moments on Pottermore.com. Moments that you haven’t yet visited appear on the Story Navigator as black and white thumbnails, whilst those you’ve already explored are shown as colour thumbnails.
The Map features all the locations and activities from Hogwarts and beyond that you currently enjoy as part of your own journey. To access them, simply click on your desired location on the Map. As Pottermore.com evolves, we’ll be adding even more locations and activities to the Map for you to discover and enjoy.
The new slim-line Top Bar displays a summary of your profile and your recent activity. As you collect items from the Moments you will see them being added to your trunk in real time, and the most recent Badge you have collected will appear here along with your Owl Notifications and your House Crest (once you’ve been through the Sorting Ceremony).
The Side Bar
To the right-hand side of your screen the new Side Bar contains updates and information so you don’t
miss out on anything new. When you’re exploring a Moment from Harry’s story the Side Bar will house the ‘Read About’ content as well as a new ‘Related Moments’ feature, which will showcase thumbnails of Moments that include similar characters, locations or themes to the Moment you are currently exploring.
Exploring MomentsIf you’re worried that you may have overlooked a hidden Galleon or Potions ingredient, or even that you’ve missed one of the exclusive entries by J.K. Rowling, the new Discovery Bar displayed along the bottom of each Moment thumbnail means you will now be sure whether you’ve explored each Moment in full, or whether you still have more to discover.
New Markers against the thumbnails of the Moments show you where to find J.K. Rowling‘s new writing and other interesting discoveries:
The Red Quill Marker will appear on the thumbnail of each Moment that contains exclusive new writing from J.K. Rowling, so you’ll never miss any of these insightful entries.
The Challenge Marker lets you know that the Moment contains a challenge, such as ‘
de-gnoming the garden’ or ‘
recapturing the Cornish pixies’.
Make sure you have your sound turned on when you see this Speaker Marker – it means a snippet from the digital audio books will be played within the Moment.
Commenting beneath individual Moments and the new Book PagesEach of the seven books now features a Book Page with a synopsis of the story, and if you enjoy sharing your thoughts with the Pottermore community you can now read and share comments on each book, each chapter, each entry from J.K. Rowling and even on every single Moment, as you go along.
A new Signed-out HomepageWhen you are signed out, your
Pottermore.com Homepage will display the latest community news and highlight new pieces of content you might not have yet discovered.
For those arriving for the first time, the new Signed-out Homepage offers a tantalizing glimpse into the world of Pottermore.com, with the chance to ‘Try a Moment’, ‘Cast a spell’ and ‘Brew a potion’, to discover more about what
Pottermore.com has to offer before signing up.
As Pottermore.com grows we will continue to evolve the site, to provide the best possible experience for all those who want to enjoy this unique gift from J.K. Rowling.
